This guide is a collection of resources about post-academic ("post-ac") careers for those with academic backgrounds in languages and the language sciences. It includes ideas, tools, and information about transitioning from academic work and life to opportunities in industry.
The guide is biased towards skills and experiences common in experimental linguistics, but this is an accident of the author's own experiences. It does not reflect any limitation on opportunities for academics in adjacent fields!
Many of the suggestions included here won't translate seamlessly across all industries, companies, or roles. Be sure to do your research! Even in academia, we see that expectations, priorities, and terminology will vary across R1s and small liberal arts colleges, between quantitative and qualitative subdisciplines, for graduate students and faculty, and in tenure-track roles and adjunct positions.
The same will be true across industries! But you're already a researcher -- you're good at this. Treat this guide as one step in your data collection process! |
